About the HazMat Test in Connecticut

The HazMat endorsement test is required in Connecticut for drivers who transport hazardous materials. It covers placarding, labeling, loading procedures, emergency response, and compliance with federal hazmat regulations. A TSA background check is also required.

How many questions are on the Connecticut CDL test?: The general knowledge test has 50 questions and you need 40 correct to pass. Endorsement tests are shorter: hazardous materials is 30 questions (24 to pass), air brakes 25 questions (20 to pass), and the combination vehicle, school bus, passenger, tanker and doubles/triples tests are 20 questions each (16 to pass). What does Connecticut require for a hazmat (H) endorsement?: You must be 21 or older and a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident or Employment Authorization Document holder. Complete the TSA online application first, get fingerprinted through IDEMIA (the TSA-designated vendor in Connecticut), and pass the 30-question hazmat knowledge test before the endorsement is issued.
